To believe, or not to believe…

I’m happy to live in a time and place when and where I can choose to believe in whatever I wish. I’m also happy to have the same choice not to believe. Many do not have such a privilege and are killed for outwardly expressing the thoughts and opinions that I sit and talk with friends about regularly.

I may not agree with a word that you say,
but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it.

If you don’t think this news is groundbreaking, you’ll have to admit that it’s interesting nonetheless. An orangutan named Sandra has been granted human-like rights by a high-level criminal appeals court in Argentina.

Sandra now has legal rights to life, liberty & freedom from harm.

She’s lived in a cage, at the Buenos Aeres Zoo, for twenty years. This court ruling will make sure she is sent to a much more comfortable home at a sanctuary.

I’ll sum up my opinion on this topic with a haiku:

one small step for apes
seeing our own reflection
and moving forward

The Great Debate

there are times when I wonder
‘did He take off and leave?’
when He saw what a blunder
mankind was, man’s greed

with free will to wander
this world as we please
we satisfy our hunger
to own the land, to rein supreme

He was never here
So, He never left
Don’t believe all the stories you’ve read
He won’t come back
To save the best
And when you die you’ll simply be dead

“No! No! There must be more!”

Shut up—there’s nothing more in store.

“You don’t know that! You can not see!”

I don’t know for sure
but it seems clear to me
that human nature has its roots
in cold blooded, reptilian territoriality.

I think this one speaks for itself.

The Dark Tower

take a walk
in the field
The Dark Tower
is all you’ll feel

in the darkness
and in the light
wish and pray
and you just might

sense its presence
(see the rose)
underneath your skin
grown cold

and that is all
you’ll ever know
all you’ll know
all you’ll know

Stephen King’s epic series, The Dark Tower, is quite a read. There are eight books in this series. The first book is called The Gunslinger (1980).

back pain, broken bones
fear of losing employment
I am not alone

I sit in waiting
for potential misfortune
the CAT scan reveals…

what are you scared of?
add up all your wasted days
and what have you done?

forgetting myself
obsessed with reality
and time hurries on

when you’ve been broken
for days and weeks and months and…
hold onto your friends

I’m safe in my box

loyal to the end

I’m still in a dream…

What can I say. You either get it, or you don’t.
