At first I was trying to be overly sappy, almost trying to write a song of poor quality (at least lyrically) but I’m not terribly unpleased by the result.

This Way

I’ve got something to say
I don’t want to live this way
I could walk right out the door
And I could keep on walkin’ ’til my feet are sore
I don’t want to live this way

You’ve got to make a change
Or I’ll let go of my reins
I can’t take it anymore
So, I’ll give you ’til tonight to get yourself off the floor
I don’t want to live this way

Dragonflies and daffodils
Earthworms and ants
It’s hard to plan ahead
When you know all things must pass
Finding a foothold
One day at a time
Making moments matter
Wasting time is fine

I’ve got something to say
We’re better off today
Because I stood right by your side
Through all the pain and all the lies
Took you a while to realize
That the way to love is through compromise

Now I want to live this way

A reflection in a puddle on Charles street.

That’s My Gal

I saw you
turn your head and run
I saw you
fall into the sun

it was you and only you
The Chosen One
but now you’ve gone
and broken all my dreams

find a path
to a place to call our home
is it the past
or the future that unfolds?

it was you and only you
The Chosen One
but now you’ve gone
and broken all my dreams

I wrote this after watching all four seasons of Battlestar Galactic (2004).

Sticks & Stones

there’ll never be enough time to explain
the meaning or the rules of the game

but you can skip some stones
and break your bones
and just feel young tonight

there’ll never be enough time to explain
the way the light hits the clouds inside my brain

but we can skip some stones
and break our bones
we’ll take some time
in and out of mind
we can sit and think
and share a drink
and we’ll both feel free tonight

My first song. Written on the front porch of my parent’s house in Wakefield, MA.
I lost my notes, and found them years later. I’m glad I could bring it back to life.

In The Woods

woods

there’s no reason
to fear reason
in the woods

I’m gonna look like I’m feelin’
(look like I’m feeling’)
in the woods

nothing is separate
all is all
in the woods
